What are the differences between stamping and forging processes?

Pressing is the combined term for forging and stamping, and it is a forming processing method that uses the hammer head, anvil block, punch, or through molds to apply pressure to the blank, causing it to undergo plastic deformation, thereby obtaining the required shape and size of the finished part.

In forging processing, the blank undergoes significant plastic deformation, with a considerable amount of plastic flow; in stamping processing, the blank is mainly formed by changing the spatial positions of various parts' areas, and no large-distance plastic flow occurs inside it.

Pressing is mainly used for processing metal parts, and can also be used for processing certain non-metals, such as engineering plastics, rubber, ceramic blanks, brick blanks, and the forming of composite materials. Pressing and the rolling and drawing in the metallurgical industry all belong to plastic processing, or pressure processing, but pressing is mainly used for producing metal parts, while rolling and drawing are mainly used for producing common metal materials such as sheets, strips, pipes, profiles, and wires.

Pressing is the combined term for forging and stamping, and is also known as industry and trade.

Stamping processing is a production technology that uses the power of conventional or specialized stamping equipment to cause sheet metal to directly receive deformation force and undergo deformation within the mold, thereby obtaining product parts with certain shapes, sizes, and properties. Sheet metal, molds, and equipment are the three elements of stamping processing. According to the temperature of stamping processing, it is divided into hot stamping and cold stamping. The former is suitable for processing sheet metals with high deformation resistance and poor plasticity; the latter is carried out at room temperature and is a commonly used stamping method for thin sheets. It is one of the main methods of metal plastic processing (or pressure processing) and also belongs to the material forming engineering technology.
