Visual inspection of appearance. This is a common method for inspection between processes, to observe with the naked eye whether the surface of the forged parts are folded, cracked, crushed, scarred, surface overburning and other defects. Deep defects hidden on the surface of forged parts are often observed after heat treatment and cleaning.

Dimensional measurement check. Including: length, width and height dimensions; Parallelism and perpendicularity of the plane; The curvature of the axis; Ellipticity of inner and outer circles; Rounded radius; Concentricity; Including Angle and displacement, etc. Forging parts size inspection is regular, measuring tools are divided into general and special, general measuring tools are calipers, calipers, vernier calipers and so on.

Mold structure inspection. In order to ensure the size and shape of the forging parts, the mold structure should also be checked. Before the final forging die and pre-forging die of the new forging die (or after renovation) are put into production and use, lead samples should be poured, or mixed metal salt castings composed of two parts of sodium nitrate and one part of potassium nitrate should be poured, and the shape and flash state of the sample should be checked to determine whether the design of the mold is reasonable. After pickling the forged parts, to check the full condition and whether there is folding, in order to determine the accuracy of the design of the forging die, such as rounded corners, flanges, ribs, etc. In addition, the cutting quality of the forging should also be checked in order to determine the quality problems existing in the design or installation of the cutting die.

Forging parts can also be tested from the chemical composition, some chips can be cut from the forging parts, and chemical analysis or spectral analysis methods are used to check the chemical composition.
